Most of the people suffer from Heart Ailments nowadays. As we grow up, we increase our chances of developing ailments of heart. We ourselves are responsible sometimes. But it is true that in the present day world, nobody escapes from punishment with diseases, especially the ones related to Heart!!
Angina: Angina is a cruel cardiac syndrome, which is characterized by pain in the chest, sometimes really unbearable causing fears of even death in the person’s mind.
This normally comes when the heart muscle is unable to get fresh, oxygenated blood which is necessary for functioning of the muscle. The pain may also extend to the shoulders, arms, neck, and jaw and even in the back. A feeling of indigestion may also occur.
The reason why this disease occurs is the Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Other heart diseases and high blood pressure also force the formation of Angina. In this disease the coronary arteries are plugged with fatty deposits called plaque. They block the inner lining of the artery thus disrupting the flow of the blood. If a clot is formed then it blocks the artery completely and if it moves may lead to severe complications other than Angina too.
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Another very common defect found in 1/5 of the world’s population today.
The normal reading is 120/80 mm of Hg for a healthy person. Hypertension is nothing but the systolic pressure greater than or equal to 140 mm of Hg and Diastolic pressure greater than or equal to 90 mm of Hg.
When not treated early it may cause further problems like Heart Failure, Aneurisms in the coronary arteries leading to blockage of the coronary arteries, Kidney Failure and it may even cause Retinopathy. But the good news is that it can be treated and controlled by changing lifestyle like giving up smoking, etc.
Myocardial Infarction: This is another CAD which results due to the decreased flow of blood in a coronary artery leading to the death of the heart muscle.
This causes irregular functioning of the heart and is clearly seen in an ECG. The affected muscle dies and then it is reduced to a scar tissue. Many people today die because they do not recognize the symptoms before a heart attack or they do not get treatment. So death and suffering can be avoided if the person is well aware of the symptoms.
Atherosclerosis: This disease is characterized by the narrowing of the coronary artery due to the accumulation of fatty deposits in the artery. This is the precursor to other heart diseases like Myocardial Infarction, Angina Pectoris. These plaques are strong enough that they may even create a blood clot as seen in injured artery thus causing severe problems to life.
